Residents, neighbors, and community workers had another successful event at the 730 Stanyan site drawing well over 200 people, and again showed what can be done for interim use when the community controls the vacant lot. On May 21st, for the second time this year, groups including the Coalition for a Complete Community at 730 Stanyan (CCC), senior working group, HANC, Cole Valley Haight Allies, Acrosports, Booksmith, Amoeba, and Institute on Aging organized a one-day event at the empty lot at 730 Stanyan that will become the site of 100% affordable housing with construction set to begin in 2023.
The CCC has continued to advocate for a community vision of both interim use on the site and the final 100% affordable housing that reflects the larger community in meeting the needs of Transitional Age Youth, families, and seniors. The CCC and other groups successfully demonstrated such an interim use on May 21st, created and executed through people power, that included senior services, Acrosports pop-up, Gardening workshop, COVID vaccinations, food/drinks, Project Coyote talk, voter registration, and other activities.
The event was attended by over 200 people, including 26 people who received COVID vaccinations/boosters. Those in attendance ranged from children, youth, adults, families, and seniors. Until construction begins, the lot at 730 Stanyan must function to be of service to the community, as reflected in the formally submitted CCC interim use proposal (www.hanc-sf.org/the-voice-and-docs/730-Stanyan/).
