[UPDATE: Due to scheduling conflicts, our program has changed. Instead of the announced program, we will feature Shahid Buttar, director of grassroots advocacy for the Electronic Freedom Frontier, followed by Dr. Anita Barzman and Dr. Nina Soares of Health Right 360, who will provide updates on the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic. Rosie Dilger, Ratepayer Advocate from the Department of Public Works will make an announcement about a proposed Recology rate change and provide an opportunity for public input.]
HANC's monthly (except August) general membership meeting is held downstairs at the Park Branch Library, 1833 Page Street (between Cole and Shrader) on the second Thursday of the month, beginning at 7 pm. Our meetinngs are open to the public and free to attend.
We are in important and somewhat dire times. Despite our local government officials' positions on the Trump administration, frequently opposing and taking strong stands, San Francisco residents still will be affected by many of the antics of the man-in-charge with the support of his robust Republican Congress.
Many questions, thoughts and feelings are still undetermined and unsettled surrounding the introduction of uncomfortable and unacceptable executive orders coming from the commander-in-chief. We need some confidence about our near future and answers to our questions . . . like what’s going to happen next month?
At the upcoming March meeting on March 9th, we will have some on the ground reports from our District 5 Supervisor, London Breed. We hope to hear about her vision and plans for her new term over the next four years as well as current events. She was re-elected as President of the Board of Supervisors.
Work of the ACLU Pertaining to Disability
Then, we will have Susan Mizner (or another representative) from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Susan ran the SF Mayor’s Office on Disability for many years and is now the Disability Counselor/Attorney for the ACLU in San Francisco. She will provide a current overview and outlook on the work they are doing and give us some suggestions of what we can do here in the Haight Ashbury ‘hood and as a city.
As always, we welcome your lively and knowledgeable questions for and comments to the speakers. Also, please bring announcements of events and other happenings in the Haight Ashbury. We’ll post them on our website and send out email notices. See you at the monthly meeting, Thursday, March 9th, 7 pm, Park Branch Library, 1833 Page Street.
