By Richard Ivanhoe, HANC President
Our May meeting began with discussions of ballot propositions for the June primary election. Kurtis LaMore spoke in favor of Proposition D and against Proposition C; Otto Pippinger spoke in opposition to Proposition B, and Lisa Arjes spoke in opposition to Proposition A. You will likely know how these propositions turned out by the time you read this.
Catherine Roscart spoke about The Big Art Loop (https://www.bigartloop.org/), a 34 mile sculpture trail around San Francisco. The sculptures are meant to be temporary—the current permit is for one year. Two of the sculptures have been installed in the Panhandle. If you want to visit them, “An Attempted Murder”—two crows, because a murder of crows is three or more—just walk along Ashbury between Oak and Fell and look east:
The other sculpture, “Seed of Self” can be seen near where the pedestrian path and the multi-use path converge, between Shrader and Stanyan. The plaque and the pictures describe the sculpture better than I can:

Leah Spellman, the Development Director for FACES, the early education facility for toddlers and preschoolers at the corner of Page and Masonic, spoke next. She announced the first ever neighborhood celebration for FACES from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, June 25, at the Urban School (see poster in separate article).
Judy and Dan from the Haight Street Affinity Group ended the meeting by sharing three of their projects. They meet in the Panhandle (near the intersection of Cole Street and the pedestrian path) on the third Sunday of every month, to get to know neighbors, and to share free things. They are trying to start a Bay Area Buyers Club, to buy produce in bulk directly from farmers. The third project is Salvage Kitchen, where neighbors get together and cook food and distribute it. This group meets every Thursday. For any of these projects, you can reach the Haight Street Affinity Group via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
