The developers of the 730 Stanyan site (Chinatown Community Development Center and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation) held their third public meeting on October 29th, and provided much new information. They have completed a massing study, which shows the approximate shape of the planned development, and how many housing units they plan.
The developers plan one large building with many features to break up its appearance. The curving exterior is quite interesting, and integrates four green spaces, three at the street level. The building will be six stories at the most, with 120 housing units. The building will step down next to Waller neighbors, and on Haight. The height is limited by available funding for affordable housing, among other things.
The building is planned to have 75% family units, including some formerly homeless, and 25% TAY (transition-aged youth) units. That's 89 family units--one, two or three bedrooms, and 31 TAY units--studios and one bedrooms. No senior units are planned, though people who are senior-aged can apply for the family units.
On the ground floor, the “commercial” spaces are planned to include: a daycare/early childhood education center, a senior center, a community room, a TAY drop in center, a tech training center, and an affordable food service, possibly with culinary training.
Still to come are the design and materials for the building exterior. We will let you know when the next meeting is scheduled. Send your questions and comments to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
