The Coalition for a Complete Community at 730 Stanyan (CCC) held a neighborhood meeting on January 22.
Louise Dunlop reported on the Seniors Working Group. The group has met, and is doing additional research. The group is working on including housing and resources for seniors at 730 Stanyan. The Seniors Working Group will be meeting monthly at the Park Branch Library, on the second Tuesday of the month, 5-6pm. Contact Louise Dunlop for more information, at 415-346-3195.
Dan Adams, Acting Director of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development [MOHCD] gave a presentation and responded to questions. He said that the two top candidates for non-profit housing developer of the 730 Stanyan site were asked to work together on the site, and he expected to make their names public by January 24. The MOHCD website does not show the names of the developers, but we have heard from other sources that they are CCDC (Chinatown Community Development Center) and TNDC (Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Center).
A joint venture can require a good deal of thoughtful discussion on goals and responsibilities. Mr. Adams said that the developers' plans for interim use and housing plans would still be subject to approval by MOHCD, and interim use by the community. He acknowledged that the CCC does represent the community.
There are conflicting accounts of what's happening on the site relative to demolition of the current building and regarding dates. The MOHCD website shows that demolition will be completed in the spring, but we have also been told that it would start as early as February 4.
A number of community members and merchants who were present at the meeting supported keeping the building and using it for community services. Mr. Adams listened to the problems of conflicting information, and acknowledged the value of retaining the current building. Stay tuned for further information!
